Research & Intelligence Task Group

Research & Intelligence Task Group

Vision

To understand, interpret and disseminate the current position and future potential of the local economy;  to identify, through research, economic issues affecting business and to encourage appropriate policy response and action.

Aims and Objectives

  • Provide interpretation and dissemination of research and information that helps to define policies, priorities and programmes for HEP.
  • Draw attention to emerging issues and needs requiring response and action.
  • Assist HEP when consulted on regional economic policy.
  • Build relations with other task groups to help define specific sector needs.
To maximise the effectiveness and efficiency of local economic research by:
  • Providing a forum to facilitate partnership, avoid duplication, promote understanding of research and encourage best practice.
  • Encouraging a business perspective within research to help in the formulation of practical policies and actions.

Areas of Focus

  • To produce ‘Informing Our Future’, an assessment of economic trends and key issues in the HEP area.
  • To support the development of online capacity to access research information.
  • To organise dissemination events for the sharing and understanding of up to date research, policy implications and best practice.

Membership

Membership of the core task group is based upon research and policy professionals of organisations who have a broad involvement in economic intelligence, data gathering, policy and research. Membership is open to all interested parties to encourage a wider understanding of economic research and the geographical diversity of the area, as well as economic priorities.
Occasional events involving a wider network help to inform debate and disseminate information. Conferences have included best practice in economic forecasting, attracting national speakers and delegates, as well as events with a more local perspective.
